About The Foundation
Brown Neurology, formerly The Neurology Foundation, Inc., was established in 1989 as a tax-exempt non-profit organization to provide support to the missions of the Warren Alpert Medical School and Rhode Island Hospital in patient care, medical education and neuroscience research.
It is incorporated as a 503(c)3 foundation by IRS guidelines, in the State of Rhode Island. It is the employer of the majority of full-time faculty members in the Department of Neurology at the Warren Alpert Medical School. All physician members of Brown Neurology have faculty appointments at the Warren Alpert Medical School. At its inception, there were four physicians, all based at Rhode Island Hospital. Brown Neurology now has fifteen physician members based at Rhode Island Hospital, Hasbro Children’s Hospital, The Miriam Hospital, and Women & Infants’ Hospital. In 2017, Brown Neurology became a member practice in

Our Mission
The mission of Brown Neurology is to develop and maintain the Department of Neurology at the Warren Alpert Medical School and its affiliated hospitals as one of the premier departments in New England. Brown Neurology is dedicated to excellence in patient care, research and teaching. To accomplish its mission, physicians of Brown Neurology are deeply involved in research, teaching and the administration of the academic venture at the Warren Alpert Medical School and its affiliated hospitals.
Physician members of Brown Neurology receive research grant funding from federal sources, including the National Institutes of Health, and non-federal sources to conduct laboratory and clinical investigations into a variety of neurological diseases.
Physicians of Brown Neurology are very involved in undergraduate medical education at the Warren Alpert Medical School, including basic and clinical courses. Graduate medical education revolves around the housestaff teaching programs at Rhode Island Hospital, which involve the departments of Neurology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Emergency Medicine and Medicine.
Brown Neurology physicians serve as the academic administrators of required medical student courses at the Warren Alpert Medical School, neurology clerkships at affiliated hospitals, the Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology residencies, various laboratories and clinical programs at Brown affiliated hospitals, the departments of Neurology at Rhode Island Hospital, Hasbro Children’s Hospital, Women & Infants’ Hospital and The Miriam Hospital, and as the chair and associate chair of the Department of Neurology at Brown University.
